what amazes me about her is not only her phenomenal voice, which goes without saying, but the raw emotion and passion with which she was able to put across a performance at such a young age. She was, what, 17 here? Lena was the kind of talent that comes along once in a generation. Only Shirley Bassey comes to mind as someone who could rival her. We can only wonder at the heights she would have attained, had she been on this planet for longer.

I interviewed Lena (for radio) at the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh back in 1980. I got the impression that she was bit of a lost soul. At the time I felt she needed a big hug, and to be told that she was loved. Such an exceptional talent. R.I.P. Lena. You're missed.

I live in Australia and was not even aware of her until I read a quote by Bonnie Langford about 4 weeks ago in which she basically said that people talk about the tragedy but in essence she was all about her singing and what a wonderful songer she was. So I looked Lena up on UA-cam . What an amazing voice and passion in each song. You know she really feels what she is singing. I then read her story and cried as I got to the end. Lena is definitely on my play list now. Another beautiful person gone before her time.

Lena Zavaroni was singing about her own struggles in her life, in this song 🎵 & you felt that was coming, through. Very dramatic like Shirley Bassey she not only sang but she was dramatic alongside it, a great tragedy like Janis Joplin, & Amy Winehouse, they left us too soon.
